Abstract

The homogeneity on the content of media becomes a phenomenon that grievous. Until now the characteristic on the specialization still be something that unusual. It is difficult to understand that the segmentation not to be the priority in our business television. No one television that specify their segmentation on the society of the upper class or lower class. Each private television shows the program television with the same type, models and quality. No one television that shows a special program. Metro TV actually had started spectacularly by proclaim that Metro TV as the only one a News Television in Indonesia. But now, this television began to add the entertainment program. Based on that problem, the researcher interested to research with the title “Comparison between Journalistic and Artistic Program on Metro TV”. With statements of problems is how many percents the comparison between the journalistic and artistic program on Metro TV? The category of the shows program suitable with the characteristic of information, it can be divided in two types (Wahyudi, 1994:17­18) that are; Journalistic Information consist of actual news, non­actual news( in depth news/investigation news, news featuring) and discussion problems (dialog/interview/panel discussion, talk show, monolog, live show). Artistic information consist of art and culture, entertainment (music, cinema, sports, infotainment) and IPTEK (science and technology). The type of the research is descriptive qualitative method with the research object is Metro TV, and the category that analyze are the programs of journalistic and artistic that consist on Metro TV. Method of collecting the data that use in observation and technique of analyzing the data is the content analysis. The result of the research found that the amount of the journalistic program on Metro TV get83% (with appearance 362 times) with the specification; actual news, 66% (287 times). Discussion problem, 10% (46 times) and non actual news, 7 %(29 times). And for the amount of artistic program only get 17% (with the appearance 76 times) with the specification; art and culture, 9% (41 times), entertainment, 4 %( 19 times) and science and technology 4% (16 times). From the data that had been described above, it can be conclude that the result of the research shows that the journalistic program on metro TV is greatest tan artistic program. With this finding it is clear that Metro TV give wider place for the journalistic program. It is relevant with the first commitment that Metro TV as the “News television” in Indonesia. And Metro TV news program still exist in their way as the news television. So in the business side, Metro TV doesn’t6 afraid of lack of the commercial because the media television that superior than the other will be find by their business partner, and in this case is the companions that need a mediator to publicize their product and all of that is the system or mechanism business. Metro TV can survive and compete with the other private television that commonly more appearing the entertainment program as the mediator to get the commercial and rating to get the profit without give attention to the quality of their program and automatically that program will affected the people. Here, the capitalism is really come into the television industry in Indonesia, where the idealism is not use. The media television is only want to get the profit (profit oriented) that looks egoist without thinking about the effect that come to the people from the side of economic, politic, social, culture, psychology or ideology.
