Abstract

Background: Self-medication is an effort to heal the shymptom by it self without consultation with medical personnel about indications, dosages and duration of medicine use. The source of information considered effective in providing information regarding the use and benefits of drugs is drug advertisements on television. Drug advertisements on television must meet the criteria, namely objective, complete, and not misleading Research Objective: To determine the effect of diarrhea medicines advertisements on television on self-medication drug selection in Jambe Rejo, Beji Village, Junrejo Sub-district, Batu City. Research Method: This type of this research with a quantitative approach.Distribution of questionnaires using incidental sampling techniques. Test instrument is done by validity test and reliability test and data analysis used is correlation analysis, regression analysis, and partial t test analysis. Results and Conclusions: The resultof the study show that the r count value of the correlation analysis is 0.469 (α = 0.05; N = 98)> r table 0.195,so there is the influence between the diarrhea medicines advertisements on television and self medication of diarrhea medicines. Simple linear regression analysis obtained an equation value Y = -0.334 + 0.493x, then the act of selecting diarrhea drugs advertised on television would increase by 0.493 per addition to one advertisement for diarrhea drugs on television. In the t test the most influential ad indicator is the "objective" indicator.
