Abstract

Keywords: GI (Group Investigation) Type, Material Comprehension. A learning process could be succeed while supported by correct learning method and also active participation of students, so that student could be motivated to learn, especially if the material related with real world or contextual. The researcher here tried to apply a learning method focused on control learning with cooperative work, so that the student could participate actively in learning process, the method was GI (group investigation) cooperative type consisted of 6 phases, they were topic selection, cooperation planning, implementation, analysis and synthesis, presentation, and evaluation. The research aimed to develop the application of cooperative learning Group Investigation type in supporting students’ material comprehension. Research design used action research. Approach used was qualitative approach. Subject in this research consisted of all students in grade VIII C SMP Muhammadiyah 06 Junior High School of Dau Malang year 2010/2011 consisted of 31 students. Data used in this research were qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data consisted of observation, interview, and field note with data analysis used were: (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) verification/conclusion. While quantitative data consisted of the final cycle test analyzed to find out the average of class and study completeness percentage fitted with SKBM, that was > 75% students got > 65 point. Data collection method used in this research were: (1) test; (2) interview; (3) observation; and (4) field note. Result showed that the final test cycle I found average 50,32 point with study completeness percentage 41,94%, so that the learning in cycle I could be said incomplete, since the final test cycle I didn’t reach the completeness percentage stated by school, where > 75% students got > 65 point. The result of final test cycle II found average class 77,97 with students completeness 77.42%, so that learning in cycle II could be said as complete. According to above data explanation, there could be concluded that cooperative learning GI type method application could increase the comprehension of students in grade VIII C SMP Muhammadiyah 06 Junior high School of Dau Malang year 2010/2011 especially in algebra operation material.
