Abstract

Background: Pain is a body protection mechanism that arises if there is damaged tissue, causing the individual to react to relieve pain. Pain in the ankle is usually called a strain or injury that occurs due to excessive strain on the muscles or tendons. Therapy to soak the epsom salt warm water can be one of the non-pharmacological therapies used to reduce the scale of pain. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there was any effect given the therapeutic effect of warm water epsom salts on decreasing the scale of ankle pain in convection workers. Method: This study was a Pre-experimental study of one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were 40 convection workers. the sample in this study was determined using purposive sampling technique. Instruments in the study used warm water mixed with epsom salts and numerical pain scale measuring instruments. Data analysis in the study used the Wilcoxon test. Result: The results showed that the average scale of pain before therapy was 4,375 and the average scale of pain after therapy was 1.4. On the results of the Wilcoxon test p value = 0,000 (<0.05) which means that there is a decrease in the scale of ankle pain after therapy of warm water soaked in epsom salt. Conclusion: Based on the results of statistical tests it was concluded that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. This is because warm water has a hydrodynamic effect which is where warm temperatures function to promote blood circulation, also epsom salts which contain natural minerals, namely magnesium and sulfate which is needed by the body to stabilize muscle contractions
