Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in emission levels using Catalytic Converter and without using Catalytic Converter, design and plan and test a Catalytic Converter made from honeycomb-shaped brass plate. Catalytic Converter uses a honeycomb-shaped catalyst from a brass plate because brass is stronger and harder than copper, and in general brass has corrosion resistance, and brass is easily formed according to the various shapes desired. This study uses an automotive laboratory as a base for obtaining data. This test uses Pertalite fuel, and the thickness of the brass plate is 0.3 mm with a catalyst length of 90 mm and a diameter of 10.6 mm as the control variable. Variable changes include variations in engine rpm, which are from 1000 rpm, 2000 rpm, 2500 rpm and 3500 rpm. The test did not use a catalyst, used a single catalyst, and doubel catalysts and response variables which included the concentration of exhaust emissions without a catalyst and the concentration of exhaust emissions using a catalyst. Data collection techniques were taken through a numerical gas analyzer, the data recorded for each measured variable , together with the temperature (C) chasing of the catalyst. The results of the study on Single catalyst showed a percentage of 32.761%, while in Doubel 54.378% compared to the absence of a catalyst for CO and gas emissions on a single catalyst showed a percentage of 65.345% and a doubled catalyst 41.725% compared to the absence of catalyst for gas emissions O2.
