Abstract

There are many methods of learning Qur’an, one of which is Ummi method. This method is one of the most-used learning methods in Indonesia recently. A lot of people are now applying this method, including educational institutions. However, many problems occur during its implementation. The problems include the inability of the teachers who cannot control the class well and the insufficient numbers of teachers who teach a lot of students. For the new teachers, they find some difficulties in handling the students as their students sometimes underestimate their ability in teaching them. However, teachers who teach at different levels of mastery also find difficulties when their students ignore and are unable to achieve particular learning goals. This current study aims at answering the questions: (1) How are the problems faced by the Ummi teachers at Elementary School level during the learning activities? (2) What are the solutions given by the Ummi teachers of Ummi Foundation of Malang? This study is called a descriptive – qualitative study. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling technique. In addition, the data collection is done through observations, interviews and The results of the present study show that the problems faced by teachers of Ummi occur in almost every Elementary School. The problems include the inability of the teachers in conducting the classroom activities which result in gaining no specific targets of learning, the chaos of the classroom due to the ill-mannered students, the different goals achieved by the students in particular levels of mastery, and the variety of the methods used by the teachers during the teaching and learning activities.
