Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of market structure on the performance of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia and Malaysia. The researcher used panel 10 data from cross section data and time series data from 2010 to 2017. The results of the study showed that the market structure proxied by market share and market concentration was not proven to affect the performance of the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia and Malaysia. The Islamic banking industry in Indonesia is not supported by differentiaton hypotheses nor is it supported by the efficient structure hypothesis. The Malaysian banking industry is supported by the efficient structure hypothesis. In the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia, collusion behavior has been found so that it can be concluded that the Indonesian Islamic banking industry is supported by the traditional hypothesis. The control variables in Islamic banking in Indonesia are known to be BOPO and NPF which have a significant negative effect, CAR negative effect is not significant and FDR has a positive and insignificant effect. In Islamic banking in Malaysia CAR control variables have a significant negative effect. BOPO, FDR, and NPF have no significant positive effect.
