Abstract

Background of the Study : dysentery is caused by an infection from Shigella dysenteriae. Included in Gram negative bacteria and have an antibiotic-resistant. Moreover, the development of new medicine is needed for restraining infection. Purpose of the Study : To find out the inhibitory zone diameter fraction of ethyl acetate tubers Eleutherine palmifolia in Shigella dysenteriae bacteria and to know chemical group contained in ethyl acetate fractions. Research Method : Disc diffusion method is used to know anti-bacteria activity. It was obtained by multilevel maceration method and the chemical contained in it were identified by the KLT method. The test concentrations used 80 mg / ml, 120 mg / ml and 160 mg / ml. The negative control used was 10% Tween and sterile aquadest, while Ciprofloxacin 5 μg / disk are positive control. Test and control solutions were placed on Mueller Hinton media. The bacterial suspension was applied then incubated at 37 oC for 24 hours. Result and Conclusion : Fraction of ethyl acetate tuber Eleutherine palmifolia contains chemical compounds Alkaloids, Terpenoids, Flavonoids, Polyphenols and Anthraquinone and has antibacterial activity. The results of this study is the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of tubers of Eleutherine palmifolia with a concentration of 80mg / ml, 120 mg / ml and 160 mg / ml provided a inhibitory zone with a moderate category.
