Abstract

Background: There are 11,000 cases of resistant TB in Indonesia and it is increasing every year. Resistant anti-tuberculosis (OAT) drugs consist of pyrazinamide, levofloxacin and ethambutol which are widely distributed in Indonesia, but have many side effects that can trigger inflammatory reactions and an increase in IFN-γ. Noni fruit contains active substances such as flavonoids, which are known to have a potential as anti-inflammatory. Objective: To determine the effect of noni fruit extract (Morinda citrifolia) on white male rats Wistar strain (Rattus norvegicus L.) interferon-gamma induced by anti-tuberculosis drugs (Pyrazinamide, Levofloxacin and Ethambutol). Method: Experimental study with post-test only control group design. White rats Wistar strain were used as sample. 20 rats were divided into five groups. Positive control group was induced by tuberculosis drugs through feeding tube, and negative control group was only given standard food and drink. Besides, the P1, P2, and P3 treatment group was induced by OAT and also given Noni Fruit extract of 100mg/kg weight, 200mg/kg weight, and 400mg/kg weight each. Rats were treated for 28 days. Data were analysed by Saphiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogenity test, One Way ANOVA and Post Hoc test. Results and Discussion: Average IFN-γ group K- (25.87), K + (44.59); PI (47,28); PII (42,84); PIII (47,34). The ANOVA test found significant difference with IFN-γ levels in each group (p = 0.000) and Post Hoc test found no significant result on positive control to treatment group. This is because the content of flavonoid, quercetin and catechin provides stimulating effects on IFN-γ production. Conclusion: There was no effect of Noni Fruit extract on the decrease of Interferon-gamma level in white male rats Wistar strain which induced by anti-tuberculosis drugs (Pyrazinamide, Levofloxacin, and Ethambutol).
