Abstract

Background: Mangosteen peel containing the compound which have pharmacological and antioxidant activities including flavonoids, tannins and xanthone. Xanthone compounds are high antioxidants with IC50 values of less than 50%. The use of mangosteen peel extract as anti-aging, it also can be formulated as a peel-off mask because it can providing local effects directly to the skin, elastic and easy to use. Objective: To determine the effect of the variation of PEG 1500 (1.5%, 2%, 2.5%) with 12% PVA in the preparation of mask peel off against physical characteristics (organoleptic, homogeneity, dispersion, viscosity and drying time), chemical properties (pH) and stability of the preparation and knowing the antioxidant activity (IC50) of mangosteen peel extract using the DPPH method. Methods: This study was carried out experimentally to compare variations in the levels of PEG 1500 formula I (1.5%), formula II (2%), and formula III (2.5%) to physical characteristics (organoleptic, homogeneity, dispersion, drying time, and viscosity), chemistry (pH) and stability of the preparation mask peel off. Results and Conclusions: The test antioxidant activity of mangosteen peel extract DPPH method got IC50 value of 7.42 ppm. The peel off mangosteen peel extract on all formulas has a soft and homogeneous texture, brownish yellow and has a distinctive smell. pH tests F1 (5.23), F2 (5.25) and F3 (5.07). F1 viscosity test (8750 cPs), F2 (18000 cPs), and F3 (14333 cPs). Spread test F1 (0.1665 g / cm), F2 (0.1814 g / cm), and F3 (0.2378 g / cm). The time test dries F1 (15'79 "), F2 (16'88") and F3 (17'07) The stability test and freeze-thaw remain stable at each temperature and do not experience significant changes in shape, while the pH of the preparation is still included in the SNI range. 16-4399-1996 (4,5 - 8,0) it is safe and good to be used on the skin. Statistical tests using the One-Way Anova’s method on all formulas do not have a significant difference to the preparation of peel off mangosteen peel extract.
