Abstract

Housekeeper is assumed as people with low social status. Their profession also contains lower connotation. One of its causes is the assumption that housekeeper profession is an easy and trivial job, which means that it does not need any special skill. Sometimes, a person, who works as housekeeper, perceives that her self-esteem is low, and that her job is lower. But then, it does not close any possibility that there is housekeeper with high self-esteem. However, it does not free from the complementary factors included a closest person, who played important role in forming self-esteem. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. Sampling technique is purposive sampling method. The research subject is three housekeepers who still active in their profession. Data collecting technique uses interview and observation. Data validation method uses source and method triangulation. From the research result, it can be known that all three subjects have different self-esteem description in appraising their selves. Two subjects in this research have high self-esteem description, while the other has low self-esteem description. First subject with high self-esteem description is autonomous, be responsible, self-confident, and assumed that her job is a legal work. The second subject with low self-esteem description still cannot receive her profession as housekeeper in her daily life. She still assumes that her job is a lower job in society, so that subject always feels sad and shame about her self and her job. The third subject with high self-esteem description is autonomous, be responsible, self-confident, and assume that her job is a legal job and also can satisfy her daily needs.
