Abstract

Amaliah, Mudrika. 2019. Antimicrobial Effect of Black Pepper Fruit (Piper nigrum) Ethanol Extract Against Salmonella typhi In Vitro. Thesis. Faculty of Medicine University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Advisor: (1) dr.Irma Suswati, M.Kes, Advisor (2) dr. Diah Hermayanti, Sp. PK Research Background: Salmonella typhi is the main cause of intestinal infection all over the world. Further, that is responsible for typhoid fever as well as the most serious infection compared to another genus. In addition, it induces hemorrhage in terms of gastrointestinal. Drugs choices resulted in medicine resistance that commonly occurs in the endemic area. Black pepper fruit (Piper nigrum) comprises antimicrobial effect (e.g. flavonoid, anthraquinone, tannin, dan alkaloid). Research Objective: to prove the antimicrobial effect of black pepper fruit (Piper nigrum) ethanol extract to the growth of Salmonella typhi in vitro. Research Method: This research was approached by using true experimental posttest only control group design. Black pepper fruit (Piper nigrum) concentration that was used were 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, 1,56%, 0%. In addition, this research was analyzed by adapting one way ANOVA, Post Hoc Bonferroni and Regression. Findings and Discussion: the findings of MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) on 50% concentration of 0,000 significance (P<0,05) in one way ANOVA test revealed significant differences. In accordance with the post hoc Bonferroni test, 6,25% concentration showed influences. Replenishment of black paper fruit extract influenced Salmonella typhi bacteria colony reduction. The regression test (R^2=0,833) revealed that black paper fruit extract effected on 83,3% reduction Salmonella typhi bacteria colony reduction by means of black paper fruit active materials that comprised flavonoid, anthraquinone, tannin, and alkaloid. Conclusion: Black pepper fruit extract has an antimicrobial effect on Salmonella typhi.
