Abstract

Arema FC Malang and Persebaya Surabaya, are the large Football team from East Java, the rivalry of both team is quite large, as we can see from the achievement to the ensuing controversies. They also have large enough fans so the athmosphere of the match can heat up when the both team meet up. Their match was also catch by mass media reporting, both local and national. So from that this study wanted to see how the news reporting that took place between two East Java clubs that had a high rivalry, namely Arema FC Football Club and Persebaya Footall Club when viewed from the news reporting construction of printed media in Jawa Pos and Malang Post was analyzed using Framing Analysis. The main theory used in this study is the theoryu of social reality construction introduced by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, and the theory of social mass media construction from Burhan Bungin. Then it will relate to the framing theory of the Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki models. The research methodology in this thesis uses a qualitative descriptive paradigm and the data analysis using the Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki framing model. The results showed that the framing carried out by Jawa Pos on the news of Arema FC and Persebaya strongly favored the public interest because Jawa Pos itself was based in the provincial capital of East Java, Surabaya, the portion of the news was more towards Persebaya both positive and negative news, while the portion news for Arema FC itself tends to be less and more news related to controversial matters. Jawa Pos tends to give a positive impression on the Persebaya club. While the framing conducted by Malang Post still shows the media efforts to approach the reporting objectivity even though Malang Post is an original conventional media from Malang, the basis of Arema FC football club. There is only a slight difference in the overall 'Headline' selection which tends to prioritize Arema FC rather than Persebaya but the contents of the message complement each other and there is no significant difference
