Abstract

Abstraction The purpose of this research is to know the difference of stock events split as indicated by any change in the rate of return (abnormal returns) and stock trading volume activity. Research conducted using a sample of 22 companies, which conducted a stock split on period 20042006 on the Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSE). The test results of the normality of the data shows that the normal distribution of data so that testing using parametric statistical tests. Based on test results hypothesis, this study found that stock splits cause events changes in the rate of return (the abnormal return) and the volume of activity stock trading. The test results on the average difference abnormal return and trading volume activity periods before and after the events of stock splits, indicates there is a difference only on the activity of trading volume, while the abnormal return is not found any difference before and after stock split event. The absence of this difference indicates that the stock market Indonesia is still relatively inefficient market, so that in the short term stock split not capable of providing signals a change in earnings for investors
