Abstract

Impact test is analysing of materials to determine the toughness or crack of the material against sudden weight. The method that we used was Charpy method with ST41 steel specimens with a carbon content of less than 0.3% or low carbon steel and specimens test using ASTM A37 as standart size. The research is to determine the hardness of ST41 steel before and after heat treatment by variation of temperature. Such as 900oC, 800oC, and 27oC respectively with a holding time of 5 minutes and be quenched by SAE 10W-30 oil as cooling media. The results of calculations and analysis show that 900oC got average score HI 1.525 Joule / mm2, 800oC got average score HI 0.472 Joule / mm2, 27oC got average score HI 0.384 Joule / mm2. So it can be concluded that by higher temperature will be smaller the fracture surface and the more energy absorbed will produce a form of ductile fracture.
