Abstract

The exam is a form of assessment carried out by students to measure competency achievement to find out the success rate of students in school. Mathematics which is considered a scourge for students can foster anxiety when approaching the exam. The students' scores on math exams are considered too difficult by the students and the result in the emergence of fear, stress, and depression while facing it. An increase in the level of mathematical anxiety in the form of anxiety about mathematics exams, mathematics learning, and numerical calculations can decrease students’ mathematical connection ability. This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical connections when viewed from the level of anxiety before the exam. The data are analyzed qualitatively the research instruments are of anxiety questionnaire, mathematical connection ability test, and interview sheet. The results of data showed that students who had high anxiety, there were still students who had low mathematical connection skills. When students understand moderate feelings, available students have moderate mathematical connection ability. When students have low feelings, these students have high mathematical connection ability
