Abstract

Transposition is a translation procedure that involved the alteration of grammatical structure from the SL into TL. It is occurred when the form in source language has a new form or different form in target language. By learning transposition, people or especially the translator may learn how to translate English into Bahasa Indonesia properly with an accurate meaning and able to convey the message as it should be. This research aimed to find out kinds of transposition procedures and the most dominant transposition procedure used on “Button, Button” short story. This research was a qualitative one, which was conducted through descriptive method. The research design was document analysis since the object of this research was the script of “Button, Button” short story. The result of the study revealed that there are 50 data that had been found. They are classified into four kinds of transposition procedure; 17 of the data are considered as automatic transposition, 4 data are considered as transposition occurs when grammatical structure of SL does not exist in TL, 4 data showed transposition occurs because of idiom naturalness, and 25 data are regarded as transposition occurs in order to fill the vocabulary gaps. It was found that the most dominant transposition procedure used was transposition that occurs in order to fill the vocabulary gaps which is consisting of 25 out of 50 from the total of the data.
