Abstract

Background: The use of pyrazinamide, ethambutol, and levofloxacin for TB often cause side effects such as inflammation. This triggers pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6. Noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia) contains scopoletin which is known to have the potential anti-inflammatory. Objective: To determine the effect of noni fruit extract (Morinda citrifolia) on the level of cytokine Interleukin 6 in white rats induced by pyrazinamide, ethambutol and levofloxacin. Method: The method used was true experimental research with Post Test Control Group Design approach. The sample used was male white rats. Rats were divided into 4 groups (positive control, noni dose 20mg/200gBB, 40mg/200gBB and 80mg/200gBB), with each group consist 4 rats. Rats were observed for 30 days. The positive control group was treated tuberculosis drugs through sonde and the treatments group were treated noni extract according to the dose through sonde then after 30 minutes is given the tuberculosis drug through sonde. Blood is taken from the heart to determine levels of IL-6 cytokines by Elisa test. Results: In the research, found decreasing levels of IL-6 cytokines in the treatment group compared the positive control. The mean levels of IL-6 cytokines in the positive control is 1.013 pg/mL, the treatment groups of 20mg/200gBB, 40mg/200gBB, and 80mg/200gBB are 0.198 pg/ml, 0.195 pg/ml, and 0.723 pg/mL. Antibiotics contain tuberculosis treartment will cause an inflammatory response in the human body. Noni has the potential anti-inflammatory that could decrease IL-6 levels in the treatment group lower than the positive control group. Conclusion: There was no significant effect on IL-6 level cytokines. However, it was found a trend of decreasing levels of IL-6 cytokines in the treatment group compared to the positive control group. Adjusted R square is -6.1%, it means higher the noni dose given is only 6,1% able to reduce IL-6 levels. Keywords: Tuberculosis drugs, Noni fruit, Inflammation, Interleukin-6.
