Abstract
Background: Kidney stones are small stones formed in the kidneys due to chemical deposition of molecules from calcium salts which dissolve in the urinary tract (Nisma, 2011). Nampu is a plant that empirically in Madiun especially Caruban, can overcome kidney stone disease by boiling the nampu rhizome with water. So, in this study to know the activity of inhibiting the formation of kidney stones by the ethanol extract of the rhizome was carried out in vivo with renal ratio parameters and renal calcium levels. Objective: To determine the inhibitory activity of kidney stone formation of ethanol extract of the Homalomena occulta rhizome in wistar rats induced by ethyleneglycol Methods: This study used a post test only control group design method using 24 Rattus norvegicus divided into 6 groups consisting of 3 control groups (K (N), K (+), K (-)) and 3 test groups dose 250 mg, a dose of 500 mg, and a dose of 1000 mg. In addition, phytochemical screening using color testing and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) was carried out to determine the content of secondary metabolites found in the Homalomena occulta rhizome. Observation of kidney characteristics was based on shape, color, kidney weight, and renal ratio. Calcium level measurements were carried out using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) instrument, then the results were analyzed using the one way ANOVA method using the SPSS 18.0 edition. Results and Conclusions: in the study of inhibitory activity from extract ethanol Homalomena occulta in rats induced ethylene glycol with renal ratio parameters and calcium levels can be concluced that ethanol extract of Homalomena occulta Rhizome with a dosage range of 250 mg- 1000 mg can not inhibit kidney stone formation in rats induced ethylenglycol.
