Abstract

Nephrolithiasis or kidney stone is condition where found the stone in kidney organ. Empirically, Homalomena occulta is believed by Madiun society to be able to treat and remove kidney stone. This study was conducted to understand the effect of ethanol extract of Nampu rhizome in inhibiting the formation of kidney stone by using microscopic methods in vitro. This study was purposed to prove the effect of ethanol extract of Nampu rhizome against the inhibition of calcium oxalate crystal on kidney stones by using microscopic methods.Extraction was conducted by using multiple macerations. Phytochemical screening was conducted on flavonoid compounds, saponin glycosides, triterpenoid and steroid. The preparation of solution was made by reacting the solution of chloride calcium, buffer solution of trisaminomethane at pH of 7.4, natrium oxalate solution, and incubated at temperature of 37o C. Positive control group and test were added cystone© and ethanol extract of Nampu rhizome then observed on microscope.The result of phytochemical screening shown there were flavonoid compounds, triterpenoid and steroid in ethanol extract of Nampu rhizome. The test result on preventing the calcium oxalate formation shown that the higher concentrate used, the higher the inhibiting power of crystal formation. The inhabitation calcium oxalate crystal in ethanol extract of Nampu rhizome at each concentrations of 35.20 ppm, 71.24 ppm, 142.72 ppm, 178.10 ppm, 214.08 ppm, 267.60 ppm, 356.20 ppm, 535.20 ppm were 14.41%, 17.56%, 23.06%, 18.61%, 16.21%, 44.42%, 50.06%, 62.25%, respectively. Ethanol extract of Nampu rhizome was potentially to inhibit the formation of calcium oxalate on kidney stone.
