Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not Community Language Learning (CLL) improvesreading comprehension of 8th grade students at SMPN 1 Pakis. To know the improvement of students’ reading comprehension, data collection through pre-test and post-test was distributed to 8th grade of A class consisting of 29 students as a control group and 31 students of C class as an experimental group. The instrument used to collect the data was a set of questions. The test was used to know the students’ reading comprehensionof recount text before and after they got treatments. Moreover, to analyze the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test statistical in SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) 21 versions. Based on the result of independent sample t-test analysis in pre-test and post-test showed that there were significant difference from the result of post-test between control and experimental groups in which the mean of post-test from experimental was higher than control groups. It was proven by the mean score of control group was 67.93 while experimental group was 81.29. Also, the result of paired samples t-test showed that the sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000. It refers that null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, H1 stated that Community Language Learning (CLL) improves reading comprehension. As the result, this method is proven effective to improve students’ reading comprehension.
