Abstract

The aimed of this research is to know whether or not the effectiveness of combining arrangement strategy can significantly improve students’ speaking skill. This is a quantitative research. The research was conducted on September - October 2018 at SMA Nurul Hidayah Probolinggo. The subjects were two classes of tenth grade students. The data was analyzed using Dependent T-test in SPSS application version 21. The result of this research showed that there is significant improvement of students’ speaking skill who taught by using Combining Arrangement strategy. The mean of experimental group which 63,44 was higher than the mean of control group which was 44,90. Accordingly, the improvement quality of experimental group which was taught using combining arrangement was better than the control group which was not taught using combining arrangement. This result was under the calculations of dependent T-test (Paired Sample T-test) with t = -15,534 was not between t-table =  2,04, which meant H1 was accepted. Indeed, applying combining arrangement strategy significantly improves students’ speaking skill.

Student ID: The aim of combining arrangement strategy is focus on students’ ability to communicate each other. It is not about the measure of grammatical and phonological correctness. It is probably true when a combining arrangement is used for the first time, the teacher will hear more errors. The teacher can correct the errors in the end of activity. If the students have the ability of speaking English they would not feel anxiety in communicate the language and it would be easier to learn about the grammar.
