Putri, Zulvia Sabillah. 2019. The Difference in the Circumcision Wound Healing Periods Based on the Body Mass Index. Final Project, Medical Faculty, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Advisors: (I) dr. Mochammad Aleq Sander, M.Kes, Sp.B, FINACS (II) Dr. dr. Fathiyah Safithri, M.Kes Background: Obesity refers to an excessive increase of adipose tissues, which can be inferred from Body Mass Index (BMI). In previous research, 158 out of 341 circumcision patient had delayed wound healing periods. Substantial changes on obese patient known as the cause of delayed wound healing. Objective: Determined the difference in the circumcision wound healing periods based on BMI. Method: Analytical Cohort Study. The sample was divided into two groups, namely the normal BMI and obese groups with 11 samples in each group. Thenceforth, a direct observation was done until the circumcision wounds healed completely based on Balaprabha research. Research result and discussion: The independent samples t-test result showed a significant difference p=0.012 (p<0.05). Obesity associated with the increase of 11f3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 that caused the escalation of glucocorticoids, in addition to the reduced NO, decrease in elastin and an increase in collagen V and VI. Those substantial changes altogether caused the angiogenesis to be impaired, thus decreased the perfusion and further predispose it to a hypoxic environment. This led to the occurrence of nutrition and immune cells deficiency, which are essential in wound healing process. Conclusion: There is a difference between the period of circumcision wound healing in normal and obese BMI. Key Terms: wound healing, circumcision, Body Mass Index, obesity.
