Abstract

Hafidh, Fadhila Nur Aini. 2019. The Effect of Noni Fruit Extract (Morinda citrifolia L.) on Malondialdehyde (MDA) Levels in Blood of Male White Rats (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar) Induced by Streptozotocin (STZ). Final Assignment. Faculty of Medicine University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Advisor (1) dr. Meddy Setiawan, Sp.PD FINASIM (2) dr. Rahayu, Sp. S Background : Streptozotocin (STZ) can induce oxidative stress in the pancreatic beta cells and cause hyperglycemia. It is causes an increase in malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Noni fruit which is rich in antioxidants is thought to reduce MDA levels. Objective : This research was to know the effect of noni fruit extract on MDA levels in blood of male white (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar) rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ). Methods : True experimental with post test only control group design. 30 rats divided into 5 groups : negative control, positive coontrol were induced by Streptozotocin, while the three group were given noni extract with dosage of 50 mg/kgBW/days, 100 mg/kgBW/days and 200 mg/kgBW/days for 25 days. The data analysis used are oneway ANOVA, post hoc Bonferroni and linear regression. Result and Discussion : The mean MDA levels K(-) = 6,33 nmol/ml, K(+) = 10,03 nmol/ml, P1 = 8,18 nmol/ml, P2 = 7,58 nmol/ml and P3 = 5,83 nmol/ml. The results of the ANOVA test was sig 0,003<0,05 indicate there were significant differences in each group. Post Hoc test results obtained a dose of 100mg/ kgBB/ day has begun to show a significant decrease of MDA levels and dose 200mg/ kgBB/ day show the lowest to be in normal range.The higher dosage of noni extract given would decrease the MDA level more (linear regression=0,814). This is caused by the content of antioxidant compounds, are flavonoids, vitamin A, vitamin C and triterpenoids in noni fruit. . Conclusion : Noni Fruit (Morinda citrifolia L) extract had effect on Malondialdehyde (MDA) Levels in Blood of Male White Wistar (Rattus norvegicus strain wistar) Induced by Streptozotocin (STZ).
