Abstract

Data of the International Diabetes Federation 2015 stated estimation amount of people with diabetes in Indonesia is quite large estimated at 10 million people. Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) is known as a natural sweetener plants non-calorie containing glycosides with the main components is steviosida which can produce a sweet taste. The propagation of stevia is most easily done by vegetative propagation through stem cuttings. Several cases of stevia nurseries have been made to improve nursery techniques and land productivity to optimize yields. One of them is stevia cuttings first sown in polybags and given a shade to maintain moisture. Indonesia has the fourth largest peat land in the world at around 26 million ha. The objective of this research was to obtain the best color variation and and effective peat planting media on the growth and levels of brix of stevia leaves as well as getting stevia plants that are resistant to acid soil stress. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) Strif Plot two factors The first factor (F1) = The color of shade which consists of 3 levels, namely: P0 = without shade, P1 = transparent shade, P2 = Blue shade. The second factor (F2) = Peat planting media consisting of 3 levels, namely: G0 = 50% soil + 50% compost (500 g soil + 500 g compost), G1 = 100% peat (1 kg peat), G2 = 50% peat + 50% soil (500 g peat + 500 g soil), G3 = 25% peat + 75% soil (250 g peat + 750 g soil). Observation variables were height number of plants, number of leaves, leaf area, amount of chlorophyll, total fresh weight and total dry weight of plants and the brix levels of stevia leaves. The results of the research are not found any interaction between the treatments at all ages and observation variables. The treatment of shade color variation significantly affected to height number of plant, number of leaves, amount of chlorophyll, total fresh weight and total dry weight of plants while peat planting media significantly affected to the treatment of height number of plants, number of leaves, leaf area, amount of chlorophyll, total fresh weight of plants, total dry weight of plant and brix levels. The difference in treatment of shade color variations and peat planting media produced different values for the brix levels of stevia leaves
