## Abstract

Trate Elementary School Bojonegoro is one of the schools that implement the concept teaching π on a circle material. However, the teacher explained the concept π without giving an evaluation test, while evaluation is mandatory. Because to see how the students understand the concept. In addition, the evaluation of students will also avoid misconceptions. This study aims to find out: (1) the level of understanding of class VI students on the concept ofπin a circle material. (2) What factors that influence the level of understanding of grade VI students in understanding the concept of π in a circle material. This study uses quantitative and qualitative research. The type of research conducted is descriptive. As a source of data, selected grade VI TrateElementary School, Bojonegoro in a year of 2018/2019 with a total of 12 students. This research was conducted in February 2019. Instrument research was tests, observations, interviews and documentation. Analysis of understanding mathematical concepts are 8 indicators, i.e. (1) Reiterating the concepts that have been learned. (2) Classifying objects based on the requirements that form the concept. (3) Identifying the characteristics of operations or concepts. (4) Applying the concept logically. (5) Provide examples or counter examples of the concepts learned. (6) Presenting concepts in various forms of mathematical representation (tables, graphs, diagrams, drawings, sketches, mathematical models, or other means). (7) Linking various concepts in mathematics and outside mathematics. (8) Developing necessaryand or sufficient conditions a concept. The eight indicators are used as a reference for analyzing and find out the understanding of students' mathematical concepts. The average percentage ofunderstanding of grade VI students' in concept of π is 73.68%. Understanding the concept with the average is included in the category of adequate understanding mathematical concept. The results of this study can be used as knowledge about understanding concepts of π in circle material. In addition, it is also suggested as a reference in categorizing the abilities of students in the classroom, particularly when learning Mathematics.
