Abstract

Vocabulary is one of important lessons that should be taught by the teacher in teaching English. Teacher should have a good technique in teaching vocabulary because vocabulary can help students to overcome three other skills of English. This study explained how the teacher applied peer teaching technique in teaching vocabulary, the problems faced by the teacher in applying peer teaching technique, and also the teacher’s ways to cope with the problems. This study used qualitative research design. The subject of this study was one male English teacher who applied peer teaching technique in teaching vocabulary. The instruments to gain the data were observation note, interview giude, and documentation. The data in this study consisted of describing the data from the observation result, listing the obtained data from interview result, classifying the data, and drawing the conclusion based on the result of the data. Furthermore, this study found that (1) in the implementation of peer teaching technique, the teacher reduced some steps, (2) peer teaching technique applied in class can cause some problems. The problems were low-achieved students, time allotment, and number of students. (3) To solve the problems, the teacher used some solutions. The solutions were selecting suitable material, giving home work, and managing number of students.
