Abstract

Utilization of natural-based medicine in curing various diseases should be utilized optimally in order to suppress the use of chemical medicine that adversely affect the body in the future. One of the biological agents that have many benefits is papaya seed (Carica papaya). Papaya seeds have many benefitss i.e antimicrobials, anti-worms, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, potentially as an alternative contraceptive for men by reducing sperm viability in semen. On the other hand, papaya seeds also contain some chemical compounds that have toxic properties such as papain and karpain. The aim of this study was to examine the acute toxicity of papaya seed extract by looking at the mortality rates in the population and reviewing the physiological effects manifested by its behavior. The dosage used was 0 g / kg BW (control), 1.5 g / kg BW, 4.5 g / kg BW, 9 g / kg BW, 13.5 g / kg BW, 18 g / kg BW. Behavior that measured such as the general behavior, aggressiveness and tail movement. This research was conducted in integrated laboratory of campus II University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The method used to test acute toxicity is by LD50 Miller and Stainter method then categorized its toxicity threshold. Then the emerging physiological impact was analyzed by Likert scale and given the score. After that the data is tested with normality test and one way anova. Toxicity test from Miller and Stainter technique analysis showed that LD50 extract of papaya seed extract was 18.62 g / kg BW and categorized as practically non toxic. Then there is the effect of papaya seed extract on behavioral physiological behavior caused by Fhit value = 22,83 and Ftab = 2,77 (Fhit > Ftab). Then there is also the effect of papaya seed extract on aggressiveness caused by Fhit value = 17,63 and Ftab = 2,77 (Fhit > Ftab). Meanwhile, there was no effect of various doses of papaya seed extract on mouse tail movements because Fhit value = 2,58 and Ftab = 2,85 (Fhit < Ftab). Furthermore, the result of this research is then developed into a poster of learning on the material of Biodiversity Utilization of Class X semester I
