Abstract

Background: Most of the anti-tuberculosis drugs have effects toward liver disruptions. Damages to the liver from drugs can result in symptoms known as DILI. The histo-pathological picture of damages of liver cells as a result of drugs, can emerge in the forms of hydropic swellings, apoptosis, and/or necrosis. Purpose: Recognizing the induction impacts of ethambutol, pyrazinamid and levofloxacin towards the number of hydropic swellings of hepatocytes on the mouse. Methods: True experimental with post-test only control group design. The mice were separated into two groups. The first group (fed with ad libitum) and the second group is the mice that are provided with ethambutol, pyrazinamid and levofloxacin. Each group consisted of six animal subjects under treatment for 28 days. The liver was taken to provide histologic preparation with HE coloring, and observed under microscope (400x magnification). Data analysis through unpaired t-tests is under normal data distribution. Results and Discussion: Average results of the number of cells between groups I and II shows an increase. In this research the data distribution was not normal (groups I, sig p<(0.05)). Data analysis was performed alongside its alternative, the mann whitney test. The results show meaningful difference (p<0.05). Conclusions: The providing of ethambutol, pyrazinamid, and levofloxacin affected the cell numbers with hepatocyte hydropic swellings on the mice.
