Abstract

Background : Candidiasis that caused by Candida albicans can be treated by giving antifungal drugs, especially nystatin. To prevent resistance to this drug, other safer treatments are needed. One of the plants that can be used as an antifungal drug is Limonia acidissima. In previous studies, Limonia acidissima pulp contained several chemical compounds such as flavonoids, terpenoids, anthraquinones, and polyphenols/tannins. Objective : The objective of this study are to obtain data about inhibitory zone of Limonia acidissima’s pulp against Candida albicans and also group of chemical compounds that contained in the ethyl acetate fraction. Method : Limonia acidissima’s pulp powder that had been extracted with n-hexane, extracted with semi-polar solvent namely ethyl acetate using maceration method. The antifungal test that used in this study was disc diffusion method that can be used to determine inhibitory zone in each concentrations are 12.5 mg/disk, 15 mg/disk, and 17.5 mg/disk. Result and Discussion : The results of disk diffusion test of ethyl acetate fraction of Limonia acidissima pulp were shown by inhibition zone diameters at every concentrations are 12.5 mg/disk is 10.77 ± 2.97 mm, 15 mg/disk is 12.97 ± 1.82 mm, and 17.5 mg/disk is 14.00 ± 2.35 mm. The group of chemical compounds of ethyl acetate fraction of Limonia acidissima pulp that identified by thin layer chromatography method are flavonoids, terpenoids, anthraquinones, and polyphenols/tannins.
