## Abstract

This study aims to: 1) describe the misunderstanding of the basic concepts of mathematics in the material amount and the difference between the two trigonometric angles which is one of the material that is considered difficult on the subjects of mathematics specialization in class XI MIPA 1 MAN Kota Batu; 2) describe the factors underlying the problem of students' mistakes in understanding the basic concepts of mathematics in the material amount and difference between the two trigonometric angles, and 3) describe efforts in overcoming student errors in understanding the basic concepts of mathematics in the amount and difference between two trigonometric angles. This research is a descriptive qualitative type of research conducted in class XI MIPA 1 MAN Kota Batu which consists of 34 students, nine male students and 25 female students in the material amount and difference between the two trigonometric angles in the subjects of specialization mathematics. Data retrieval is done by doing a learning with the help of several research instruments namely student worksheets, group worksheets and open interviews with students. Data obtained from the results of student work analysis both from student worksheets and group worksheets as well as from the results of personal interviews. The results of this study indicate that: 1) some students in class XI MIPA 1 MAN Kota Batu experienced errors in understanding the basic concepts of mathematics in the material amount and difference between two trigonometric angles; 2) there are several factors that cause students to experience basic mathematical conceptual errors in the material amount and difference between the two trigonometric angles which factors come from themselves, related subject teachers and the surrounding environment.
