Abstract

Character education emphasizes on the knowledge aspect more than the attitude and application aspects. This is proven with the phenomenon of student gang-fights and promiscuity. Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah Singapore is considered successful in managing noble character education. This study aims to research and explore data on character education in Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah school in Singapore and how to manage noble character education. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection is done by interview, observation and documentation techniques, where the researcher collects data from various primary and secondary level of the Madrasah which are relevant to the research theme. Data analysis process in this study went through the following stages: reducing data, exposure to data (Display), and drawing conclusions. The research findings show that the programme planning of Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah begins with the establishment of a vision and mission of the institute. The determination of superior programs was divided into 3, namely: daily routine programs, weekly programs, monthly programs and annual programs that are incentive-based. The daily program includes the collective reciting of supplications, dhuha prayer, khutbah, prayer in congregation and hiwar. Weekly programs are such as sunnah fasting, memorization, sports, reading the Qur'an and cultural aesthetics. The Madrasah instils a reward and punishment system to support the effective running of the programs. Monthly activities are namely leadership and tarbiyah based. Yearly or incidental activities are such as the celebration of religious occasions, Ramadhan program, Mukhayyam, Eid al-Adha, debate or speech contest and the Ihsan project. Monitoring and evaluation is carried out continuously on all aspects of student activities. The evaluation of superior programs is carried out to see whether the flagship program activities are carried out in accordance with the plans and objectives to be achieved. The results of the evaluation will be discussed in a meeting carried out monthly, once a semester, and annually. Success is marked by changes in student behavior such as discipline, diligence in worship, obedience and honesty. The societies increasingly believe in Madrasah Aljunied and it continues to thrive and develop. One of the research recommendations is that all stakeholders commit to the plan, become examples and carry out continuous coaching and establish partnerships.
