Abstract

Lesson plan is a written preparation of the educational process in which it contains the way, the material, method of learning, the time, place, and the form of assessment. Lesson plan is a tool to guide the teacher in learning course. Designing a lessson plan is one of teachers’ responsibility. In this study, there are two research problems. The researcher wanted to find out the difficulties faced by English teachers in designing lesson plan suggested in the 2013 curriculum and the solutions that the English teachers do to resolve the difficulties in designing lesson plan suggested in the 2013 curriculum. The descriptive qualitative design is employed in this study. In this study, the researcher used interview as instrument. The subject of this study is the English teachers at SMPN 3 Malang who have difficulties in designing lesson plan. There are two steps the researcher used in collecting the data, they are; interviewed the English teachers and drawing conclusion. The finding showed that there were five difficulties faced by English teachers in designing lesson plan suggested 2013 curriculum and also the ssuggestions that English teachers applied in designing lesson plan suggested 2013 curriculum, those were: (1) in following 2013 curriculum training, the difficulties were short training time and different education background, the solutions were searched information through internet, (2) in formulating indicators, the difficulties was; lack of understanding about “Bloom Taxonomy” and in making standard indicators, the solutions were; teachers had a discussion and searched through the internet (3) in determining learning approach/ method/ strategies, the difficulties were; confused in choosing the right one and making different lesson plan to every class; the solutions were; following the class condition and used lesson plan from internship students, (4) in developing learning activities, the difficulties was; lack of ideas to create it, the solution was; searched through the internet, (5) in compiling assesment technique and instrument, the difficulties were; too many instruments of assessment that must elaborated, the solutions were; the teachers did it at home.
