Abstract

This research was conducted based on the degradation of moral value among the children like bad attitude to the teacher, rude, etc. This phenomena was caused by some factors, one of them is the inappropiate moral value teaching from kindergarten to the university level. Therefore, spiritual based moral value approach is the effective way to solve the problem in teaching moral value for the children. This research aimed at investigating spiritual based moral value approach as well as finding the excellence of spiritual based moral value approach to build the students’ character. Descriptive qualitative in the form of case study was used in this research. The data was collected using observation, in depth interview and documentation. The data then analyzed using some steps such as data reduction, data display and verification The result of the study showed that in implementing spiritual based moral value approach, teachers started the teaching process by giving the foundation of Ilahiyah (Goddess) Orientation, tazkiyah an-nafs ( cleanese the soul), showing the good character of Muslim, spiritual leadership and being professional. The teaching process was conducted integratively using some methods such as habituation and practice, exemplary, playing, story telling, singing, and field study. These methods were conducted in some steps including; apperception, discussion, story telling, media showing, role playing, value reflection, value stressing, and also cooperating with parents Spiritual based moral value approach can touch the students’ hearth, so they are become closer with their teachers and by seeing a good example from their teacher, the students implement a good moral value as well as enjoy to study. Other benefits from this approach are students have a good behavior, talking politely, respecting teachers and parents, sharing with their friends, well behave to their friends and being patience to get their turn. The implications of this study are: 1) enriching the variety of moral teaching approach. 2) giving the theoretical contribution especially on formulating the moral value teaching steps and method. 3) Strenghtening the theory formulated by some experts such as al-Ghazali with his theory of al-thuruq ila tahzib al akhlak about the habitiuation method, exemplary and tazkiyah an-nafs ( cleanese the soul), ibn Miskawaih theory of tathhir al-a’raq (the purity of the soul). 4) Enriching the theory of Lickona in stressing the importance of three components of good character with spiritual value foundation
