Abstract

This research discusses the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education learning model on student representation abilities, which is motivated by the perception of the majority of the students that mathematics is considered difficult as well as the students mastery in mathematics is still low. On the other hand, mathematics has an important role in everyday life. The sucsses of mathematics cannot by separated from the preparation of students and teacher. The teacher must be able to motivate the students to learn mathematics. In this study, the model of realistic mathematics education is used. This learning model offers the students the opportunity to find mathematical ideas based on realistic situation. This research method uses quantitative approach with the design of one-group pre-test post-test design experimental research (design of the pre-test single group test post). The population in this study was Vb grade students of Junrejo Elementary School 1 Batu. The sample used in this study is a non-probability sampling technique. In this study, samples used were 40 Vb grade students. The data collection in this study includes interviews, test, questionnaires, and documentation. The result of this study is there was an influence of realistic mathematics education learning models on students representation abilities. The results obtained from the significance value of more than 0,05, the significance value of the pre-test is 1.517 while the post-test significance level is 0,986. It’s proven from the average of pre-test value of Vb class students which is 62.76, greater than the average of pre-test value which is 38,28. In conclusion, after using the realistic mathematics model it affects the representation ability of the students.
