Abstract

Analysis of the errors made by students in solving HOTS mathematical word problem was center of discussion in education because of improvement of content standart curriculum 2013. The purpose of this research was describe the result of error analysis made by student grade V elementary school in solving HOTS mathematical word problem. The errors made by student in solving HOTS mathematical word problem were analized using Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA) which consist of 5 stages namely (1) Reading, (2) Comprehension, (3) Transformation, (4) Process skill, (5) Encoding. This research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research are the student of class V SDN Tulusrejo 3 Malang 2018/2019 consisting of 17 students. The data was taken using test, interview and documentation. The instrument of research consisting of a written test, scoring, interview methods and documentation methods. Each student work was reviewed and analyzed based on the stages of Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA). Test the validity of the data was carried out with perseverance the observer and triangulation. The analysis of the data obtained using Milles & Huberman model. The results showed that student made a mistakes at the stages of Newman’s Error Analysis (NEA), the average percentage of reading errors was 36,47% with low qualification were from reading error, not knowing the meaning of word or symbol, the average percentage of comprehension error was 70,16% with high qualification were from not knowing what to look for, the average percentage of tranformation error was 58,03% with medium qualification were from errors generation function, the average percentage of process skill error was 67,84% with high qualification were from errors in calculation, the average percentage of encoding error was 72,54% with high qualification were from errors in making final answer of the test.
