Abstract

The Green School Program aims at shaping the awareness on the environment sustainability at school. Therefore, the Green School Program is focusing at people in school area, expecially students. The SDN Sumbersari 2 Malang is one of the school that apply this program. This study aims at describing (1) the implementation of the character building on the environmental awareness strengthening through the Green School Program, (2) the character forms to shape through the Green School Program, (3) the supporting and obstacle factors, and (4) the efforts to overcome the existing obstacles of the implementation of Character Building of the Environmental Awareness through the Green School Program at SDN Sumbersari 2 Malang. This Study applied the descriptive qualitative method. The data source were the headmaster, the green school PIC (Person In Charge), teachers, and students. The data was obtained through observation, interview, and documentation. The data validity is through soure and technical triangulations. The data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model which included the data reduction, presentation, and conclusion/ verification. The result of the study showed that the program was conducted on integrated in the programed activity and unprogramed activity such as Green School Festival, habituation, and learning development on the environmental awareness. The value strengthening is in the form of the cleaning activity, waste segregation, energy saving, provision of trash can, handwashing activity, the provosion of toilet, clean water, biopore, waste channel, cleaning tools, the environmental awareness program itself, classroom maintenance, sticker installment of saving energy, usage of toilet for urinating and bowel movement, no littering, cleaning the school yard, keep the flowers alive, cleaning the trash can, cleaning the school environment, keeping the class neat and tidy, and keeping the plants at school alive. The supporting factor in the form the supporting from teacher, school staff and parents. While the obstacle is the form of insufficient facilities, inadequate budged and funding. The solution is by improving good cooperation with the parents and reinforcing the announcement to ensure the students awareness.
