Abstract

Background: Pityriasis versicolor is a superficial dermatomycosis caused by Pityrosporum ovale, the most common disease with prevalence reached 50% in tropical countries such as Indonesia. The treatment of pityriasis versicolor such as ketoconazole has some side effects such as vomit, pruritus and abdominal pain and also resistance, so researcher used green tea leaf extract (Camellia sinensis). Green tea leaf extract contain of alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin and tannin that suspected can play a role as antifungal through different mechanism. Purpose: To prove the effectivity of Green Tea Leaf Extract (Camellia sinensis) on the growth of Pityrosporum ovale in vitro. Research Method: Experimental post test only group design, using a dilution tube with concentration of the extract 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,125%, 1,56%, 0,78%, 0,39% dan 0%. Data were analyzed using One Way Anova test and continued by using Post Hoc Bonferroni test. Discuss and Result: Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) can not be observed because the color of the solution was brownish to greenish, while minimal lethal concentration (MLC) score was 6,25%. One Way Annova test showed p=0,000 which means there are significant impact of the Camellia sinensis extract. Post Hoc Bonferroni test showed p=0,000 which means Camellia sinensis extract give the effect to a decrease in the colony of P. ovale. Conclusion: Green tea leaf (Camellia sinensis) extract has effectivity on the growth of Pityrosporum ovale In Vitro.
