Abstract

The School Literacy Movement is a comprehensive effort to establish the school as a learning organization of the literate community. One of the activities from this School Literacy Movement is to read the textbook for 15 minutes before starting learning activity. There are three activities in this school literacy movement namely pre-reading activity, reading activity and post-reading activity. With the school literacy movement, it should be able to make students prefer Indonesian language subject and reading. The aims of this study are (1) to describe the implementation of the School Literacy Movement to increase the interest of reading in Indonesian language subject in the fourth grade of MI Hidayatul Mubtadi’in Tasikmadu Malang. (2) To describe the supporting and inhibiting factors of the School Literacy Movement to increase the interest of reading in Indonesian language subject in the fourth grade of MI Hidayatul Mubtadi’in Tasikmadu Malang. The result of this study about the implementation of the School Literacy Movement in MI Hidayatul Mubtadi’in Tasikmadu Malang is divided into three stages, there are pray before starting an activity, reading the textbook for 15 minutes, the question-answer section with the teacher and the students and repeating explanation from the teacher. The supporting factors of this movement are the existence of the library and the literacy slogans. Whereas the inhibiting factors of this movement are the school does not have a librarian, the limited books in the library and also only one reading park available in the school.
