Abstract

Background: Propionibacterium acnes is a Gram-positive bacterium which is normal flora on the skin that is often found in acne lesions. Most mild to moderate acne requires topical therapy in the form of synthetic drugs that contain antibacterials. The use of synthetic antibacterial not infrequently can cause allergic reactions for the user which is not suitable for using the antibacterial. Therefore, an alternative way was chosen in the form of herbs based on previous research, namely Citrus reticulata fruit to overcome the problem. Objective: This research aimed to obtain the data on the antibacterial activity of compound components found in the ethanol fraction of fruit peel (Citrus reticulata) toward Propionibacterium acne bacteria, which can be obtained from the inhibition zone. Method: The researcher used the disc diffusion method with Propionibacterium acne test bacteria with 3 control groups (C (S), C (+), C (-)). Control of sample consisted of 4 test concentration of 25 mg/ml, 65 mg/ml, 125 mg/ml dan 250 mg/ml controls of positive used Clindamycin 2µg, while the controls of negative used DMSO 2%. In addition, phytochemical screening was also conducted to determine the content of secondary metabolites found in the ethanol fraction of Citrus reticulata fruit peel. Results and Discussion: The diffusion test results of the ethanol fraction discs of Citrus reticulata fruit peel with disc diffusion method with a concentration of 25 mg/ml and 65 mg/ml did not provide an inhibition zone, the concentration of 125 mg/ml was 10.13 mm, a concentration of 250 mg/ml was 13.33 mm. The control of negative of 2% DMSO did not provide inhibition zone diameter, while for the control of positive Clindamycin 2µg / disk provided an inhibition zone of 22.25 mm. Conclusion: From the results obtained by the inhibition zone produced including the resistant group it becomes ineffective when used as an antibacterial
