Abstract

Background: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a benign that commonly occurs on late aged man, characterized by blockages in urine outflow from prostate glands caused by the excess of Epitel and Stroma cells in prostate area. Therapy on BPH patient is consisted of watchful waiting, pharmacology therapy, and intervention therapy. TURP is the most common surgical action to resolve prostate enlargement which post-operation infection may potentially occurs, so prophylactic antibiotics is needed to reduce bacterial contamination on BPH patient post operation. One of the recommended antibiotics is Ceftriaxone which classified as third generation cephalosporin. Objectives:This study aims to determine the pattern of antibiotics ceftriaxone administration pattern on benign prostatic hyperplasia in inpatient care installation of Pare regional public hospital. Method:This study was an observational with retrospective methods in benign prostatic hyperplasia patient from 1st January 2017 until 31st December 2017. Result and Conclusion: Single ceftriaxone administration pattern as prophylaxis antibiotic on 30 patients (46%) dosage (1x1g) IV and as therapy antibiotic on 35 patients (54%) dosage (2x1g) IV. Most common switch administration pattern on 23 BPH patients (66%) is ceftriaxone (1x1g) IV as prophylaxis then switch to ceftriaxone (2x1g) IV as therapy antibiotic then switch again to amoxicillin 3x500mg oral as therapy antibiotic after the patient is going home. Ceftriaxone administration pattern related to indication, dosage, route, and administration frequency to BPH patient in inpatient care installation of Pare regional public hospital is appropriate according to some literature study.
