Abstract
This research discusses a combination topic between social media and theory of translation especially in translation shift. Instagram is one social media that used by the users in sharing photo and video by adding a caption where the users can give a status in every post and appear underneath on instagram photo. This research defines Translation shift on instagram caption posted by linguistic lecturer at English Language Education Department. It intends to gain types of translation shift and dominant shift used by the owner of the instagram. This research used descriptive qualitative design to draw data about translation shift. The data were taken from the caption that consists Source Language (SL) and Target Language (TL) that created by the owner of instagram as the research object in this research. After analysing the data, there were 7 postings of the owner by using Source Language (SL) and Target Language (TL). The data showed the total shift taht was found around 19 translation shifts that were found, there were 5 structure shifts, 2 class shift, 10 unit shift, and 2 intra-system shift. Overall, the most dominant shift that was found by reseacher is unit shift.
