Abstract

Indonesia is identified as EFL country that has a lot of culture from every region. This would lead Indonesian students to face multicultural classroom. They need to adapt with their new environment while learning English as their foreign language. This research used qualitaive research design to describe student’s problem in English learning in multicultural classroom at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The subject will be E class student. The research tries to find out the student’s problems and discover the causes of the problems. Furthermore, the research obtained the data from interview and questionnaire. The steps of data analysis were organizing, coding and reducing, interpreting and represnting, and drawing a conclusion. The result of the research showed that there were two factors as internal factor and two factors in external factor that influence student’s English learning process in multicultural classroom. Those internal factors are perception and learning style. Those external factors are motivation and socio culture status. The result of the research showed that there were three factors that become problematic for the students in English learning. Those factors are perception and learning style as internal factor and socio culture status as the external factor.
