Abstract

The research background in this research was based on the phenomenon that the teacher and the student had problem in writing procedure text because the teacher less creative and skillful in using teaching strategies. For the students, they did not like English lesson and assumed that the English lesson was difficult. The research method was classroom of action research held on March until April 2018 in SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Malang academic year 2018/2019. The subject was students of ninth grade in academic year 2018/2019. This class consists of 25 students; 17 boys and 8 girls. The research was conducted in 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings. This research used learning Youtube videos as the teaching media. The data collection of the research was qualitative data, supported by quantitative data. The research findings showed that there was improvement of the students’ skill in writing procedure text trough learning Youtube videos. The improvements could be proven trough process in the Cycle I and Cycle II that the students have mastered the procedure text material; (1) they were able to determine the topic and wrote down the name of the food or drink what the students want to make. (2) they were able to determine the tools and materials needed to make something. (3) they were able to make something, could explain the steps of how to make something and marked the steps with numbers. (4) they were also able to compose the sentences using time information. (5) they were able to show the command sentence. Then, the improvement of students’ score of the pre-test was improved from 61.44 to 82.12 in the post-test. Then, the scores of the pre-test and post-test showed that there was students’ improvement who achieve passing grade; that is 72. The test result showed that there was significant improvement of the students’ writing skills in procedure text after the researcher conducted the action research.
