Abstract

This research is focused on correlation of teacher competency and school culture to student learning achievement at al izzah senior high School, with the formulation of the problem as follows; 1) how does teacher competency affect to student achievement?; 2) how does school culture affect to student achievement?, and 3) how do teacher competency and school culture affect to student achievement?. This research have been done at Al Izzah Senior High School of Batu City. Al Izzah Senior High School have vision of education that organizing muslim education institutions with an integral system that combines intellectual, mental-spiritual and life-skills aspects so it can give birth to a generation of taqwa, smart and independent. This study uses a quantitative approach. Data collection is done with observation, questionnaire and documentation study. The study sample was set by 200 students chosen proportionate stratified random sampling. Data analysis is done with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Conclusions from the results of the analysis in this study as follows; 1) the influence of teacher competence on student achievement is very significant, the best indicator in forming teacher competency variables is pedagogic competency with the highest loading factor of 0.954; 2) the influence of school culture on student achievement is very significant, the best indicator in forming school culture variables is independent culture with the highest loading factor of 0.952; 3) the influence of teacher competency and school culture on student achievement is very significant, when compared to the influence of both on student achievement then the school culture has a higher influence (amounting to 0.49) compared with the influence of teacher competency (amounting to 0.48).
