Abstract

Research paper is a paper made by students who are studying in academic degree to obtain as a bachelor. It becomes the most important requirement for getting a bachelor degree. However, many students face the obatacles while they are writing a research paper, especially for the students of English Language Education Department. Every students has different opinion in writing a research paper. Therefore, they also have different obstacles. This research aims to find out the obstacles and the most influencing obstacle faced by students of English Language Education Department in writing a research paper at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study used quantative research. The subject of this study was 38 students of English Language Education Department in 2014 academic year who were writing a research paper. This study used questionnaire and interview as the instruments. The questionnaire used for knowing the obstacles faced the students related to the internal factors related to the students, advisor, others, and also the external factors. Moreover, the interview used for finding the most influencing obstacle based faced by the students in writing a research paper. After collecting and analyzing the data, the result of this study showed that internal factors which related to the students and the advisor had became the factors which trigger the obstacles that was chosen by many students. However, the most influencing obstacle faced by the students in writing a research paper was came from internal factor that related to the students. It was difficulty to write the idea in writing a research paper. In addition, the obstacles faced by students of English Language Education Department in writing a research paper was came from the internal factor of the students themselves.
