Abstract

The fact that happened in the field, namely in Muhammadiyah Elementary School 5 Malang, shows that there are still many students who still do not have an understanding regarding the calculation of distribution operations, so an analysis is needed to see the causes of students making mistakes in the distribution operation using the prapapit method. This study aims to determine the results of the analysis of the level of error in the use of porogapit method on the distribution material according to Newman's theory in grade IV of elementary school. The use of Newman's theory is a theory that is expressed to solve problems related to mathematical errors made by students using HOTS type questions to measure errors made by students. This study uses a descriptive research approach with a type of qualitative research. As a source of data, it was focused on class IV of Muhammadiyah 5 Malang Elementary School 2019/2020 which consisted of 20 students in the category of 10 male students and 10 female students. The study was conducted in 2 cycles, the first cycle was with the initial observation activities, while for the second cycle the follow-up research was from the first cycle.
