Abstract

The mass media is now developing very rapidly. It's been so many types of media, ranging from simple or traditional to the very modern. The issue is of so much mass media as sources of information, how the public can choose to use which. And what factors into their backgrounds in the media chose it as a source of information. This could be one factor is socioeconomic staus. Socioeconomic status is a position that is socially regulated and put seorang in certain positions in the social structure of society. Or in other words the socio-economic status could be intended as the circumstances a person in a public sphere. The higher the social status of people then it might be the higher the tendency of mass media election as a source of information. From this thought, researchers formulate research formulation is: How strong relationship with the socioeconomic status of the selection tendency of the media as a source of information? Adapaun purpose of this research is: To know how strong the relationship between socioeconomic status with the tendency of media selection. This type of research used is eksplanatif survey research to find out the circumstances or conditions occurs or what influence the occurrence of something and examine relationship between the hypothesized variables with a quantitative approach. Object of this research is the community of RW.14 Madyopuro, district of Kedung kandang. While the sample of this research is 42 respondents using simple random sampling technique. Then researchers spread the questionnaire as a means of collecting primary data. The questionnaire was tested level of validity by using product moment correlation and reliability testing with alpha techniques. Data analysis technique is to use the product moment correlation to examine socioeconomic status relationship with the tendency of media selection as a source of information. Based on the results of research by testing the correlation product moment correlation coefficient values obtained (r) of 0.561 which indicates a relationship variables X and Y when compared with the r table value of 0.304. The results of these calculations show that r count > r table, so that it can be said that there is a relationship between socio economic status as an independent variable with the tendency of media selection as a source of information as the dependent variable and has a real impact.
