Abstract

This research aims to identify about collocations and its patterns. Collocation is two words or more that always appear together. This analysis uses Benson (2010) theory, which is divided collocations into two types, namely Grammatical Collocation and Lexical Collocation. The unit analysis of this research is in novel written by Jenny Han which was published in 2015. The book was written in two languages, Bahasa Indonesia and English versions. The research method in this study used technique of descriptive qualitative. Qualitative research presented the data of the research in the form of qualitative description. Procedure in this study was by reading the novel, collecting the collocation, and describing the collocation. From the analysis that has been done the researcher found a lot of collocations particularly in chapter 1 to 10 in the novel. In the novel, many conversations consist of collocations. The researcher almost found all types of grammatical collocations, and for lexical collocations, the researcher only found 5 types of 7. In conclusion, as we know that collocations cannot randomly to use because they have fixed combinations, so that collocation is important to learn because it always appear in our daily conversation.
