Abstract

Spirulina sp. is a microalgae that belongs to the cyanobacteria group with a filament form, widely used widely in various fields such as the fields of cosmetics, health, food, and aquaculture, in the cultivation of Spirulina sp. used as natural food for larvae and as a feed for zooplankton. The abundance of spirulina will be greatly influenced by changes in temperature, pH, or salinity, in a condition the salinity will greatly affect the growth of Spirulina sp. because the increase in salinity will affect the inhibition of photosynthesis, respiration and inhibition of the formation of daughter cells as well. This research was conducted on December 1, 2018 until it was completed at the Fisheries Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Methods in this study are experimental methods. The design used in this study is Complete Random Design (RAL). The treatments were A with salinity 10 ppt, treatment B with salinity 15 ppt, treatment C with 20 ppt, and treatment D with 25 ppt. The results showed that there was no difference between each salinity treatment given. This is indicated by the value of F count <F table with an average data of 20.10 x 104 cells / ml in treatment A, then in treatment B 22.60 x 104 cells / ml, treatment C with 22.77 x 104 cells / ml and the last one is treatment D with 19.10 x 104 cells / ml. The peak population obtained was not much different, namely treatment A and D with salinity 10 and 25 ppt giving a population of 36.66 x 104 cells / ml, followed by treatment C 20 ppt with a total population peak of 35 x 104 cells / ml, then treatment B with 33.33 x 104 cells / ml. The conclusion of this study is that salinity 10, 15, 20, and 25 can be used as a culture medium for Spirulina. sp because there is not much difference in the total population of Spirulina sp in each treatment.
